FAQ

To answer the most common questions that customers put the company about the characteristics of the P-LAM structures consisting of wood panels in parallel layers and not only that, here is a list of FAQ.

  1. MAXIMUM SPACE BETWEEN A WALL AND OTHER ONE
Like any construction technique, also P-LAM structures shall be sized in relation to the operating loads and span design, so we can safely say that, in theory, there are no real limitations that prevent to have very large spans creating open spaces without pillars or walls. In conclusion, we’re able to respond to all the requirements of space, simply by applying the principles of science of construction, sizing the sections of the building elements (see detail below).
  2. BEHAVIOUR IN CASE OF FIRE
The first consideration is that wood, unlike steel, has a natural resistance dependent on the dimensions of the panels and floors and from the fact that thanks to the phenomenon of carbonization, the process of fire is slowed down, thus ensuring the preservation of structures and human life.In addition, we recallthat the walls of the structure donot have wood in sight, but these are « sandwich walls and floors » with a core of wood panels, with outside several layers of different materials, such as the fireproof plasterboard. In conclusion to all the above, treating of structure made by walls and floors in P-LAM, thanks to our constructive system of connection (regulated by international patent) realized by total resining of the wall-slab contact surface, we are able to ensure a traction resistance to more than 5 times higher the loads of exercise, given our experience of over 15 years on the spatial network structures that adopt the same resined systems with an international patent.
  3. MAXIMUM NUMBER OF REALIZABLE FLOORS
In the example we proposed, that is a skyscraper of 40 mt of diameter in plan, storey height equal to 3,40 mt in the raw, that is net internal heigh of about 3 mt, the height of the building is 45 floors above ground for an altitude of about 153 mt. We highlight this to say that the maximum height of a building feasible of this type is due to the size of the plant and elastic deformation that results in relation to the applied loads, all in accordance with the rules of building science that prescribes a analysis in the elastic range.
  4. ANALYSIS OF STRUCTURAL LOADS – STABILITY TO THE WIND – STABILITY TO SEISMIC EVENTS
We answer the last three points referring to the results of pre-structural calculation about the skyscraper analyzed to simplify:we havr regulary performed a detailed analysis of the loads (necessary for the calculation), and we observed that under the conditions we tasted, in buildings of this type, was definitely dominant the effect of the wind in case of a possible eartquake, so in the simulation of calculation we have verified that the skyscraper, subjected to loads above, compiled with the rules of building science. In addition, we reiterate tat the operating conditions to be adopted in the analysis of load, are dependent on the installation site and therefore should be done each time you design a building; fromthis analysis it follows the size of every structural elemnts of the building and its height.
  5. THERMAL AND ACOUSTIC CHARACTERISTICS
Estabilished that wood has an excellen thermal inertia, because i is a poor cinductor of heat, it should underline that the skyscraper we propose are characterized by the structure in P-LAM earing panels which are to be expected coated externally by panels ( commercially available)that can give to the walls and floors all the characteristics in terms of finishing, thermal insulation, etc… in essence, walls and floors are characterized by a core of laminated wood, complete with a stratigraphy variable depending on the technical and functional requirements of the wall or ceiling themselvesobviously using certified materials in full compilance with current regulations. Ultimately we will be able to ensure the required characteristic in relation to the requirements of specifications and to the specific characteristic of individual projects that there will be subjected from time to time.
